The power of social media is immense and an unregulated system is having a unfortunate on the vaccine take up among the younger people in the uk. The fact is of course that most of this age group are taking the vaccine for the greater good of the country and not their own benefit . They are not immune to the virus and some of the unvaccinated in this cohort are needing medical attention in hospital.
A large number of people in the population will act mainly in self interest and it is no surprise that there was a massive uptake in the over 80’s group. Peter Cronin thinks that the French may have the answer. Vaccine passports are a big attraction for the French youth who are queuing up for the vaccine when in the past they were shy to so so. The benefit to the young might not be avoiding a bad experience with the virus but they seem to be attracted to the benefits of being able to go to pubs, nightclubs and restaurants. Peter Cronin thinks that maybe it is the job of Government to nudge behaviour for the greater good.
