You could be forgiven for thinking that the Chancellor speaking yesterday was representing labour , but maybe that is because following a pandemic and brexit there was little choice. More funding required for public services due to demand and with a withdrawal of cheap labour from Europe, wages will have to go up to get the work done.
So increasing the living wage will increase the tax take so that is another bonus. More Income Tax, National Insurance and Corporation Tax will fund the spending . It is the time of a new industrial revolution and new machinery will replace workers on farms . No sign of modern day luddites so far but who knows?
Make no mistake this Chancellor is driving forward major changes in the uk but probably not simplifying things.
