Fuel Crisis and the great North South divide , Peter Cronin asks why Northerners queue for air while Southerners queue for fuel.

Friday Evening in Newcastle and the queues are forming at the fuel station but here it is not for petrol or heavy oil but air. A few cars at the pumps but ordinary family cars are calmly filling up while their Southern counterparts are struggling to find any where to spend a mere £100 to fill up their Chelsea Tractors.

Queues forming to fill the tyre with air is not uncommon in Newcastle Upon Tyne. This is not panic buying but there will be a steady stream of people all evening and the best bit is that it is all free.

We all feel for those inconvenienced by selfish drivers but when we are told that there is no shortage of supply a bit of common sense prevails and everyone can get to do their essential work.
