Newcastle Hoppings 2026 – Peter Cronin says that it is a good year for the Hoppings

Newcastle hosts Europe’s largest funfair and of course it is the best.

Yes there are big rides , smaller rides and ones for the younger people , but this wheel has to be one of the big ones and I think that it looks fantastic.

To me this is just wow !

The reverse bungie. I am not sure why you would want to go on this ride. Not because it is a bad ride , actually it looks awesome but you will be sent on your way to the moon and back and spun around in the meantime. Only two competitors per ride so I expect that there will be queues for this and you do get a photo if you complete it. Basically that means start the ride because , once you are there, there is no going back.

Another big ride. There are people inside this ride !

The waltzers are an old favourite at fairgrounds and this one looks pretty good.

So there are traditional rides at this year’s fair.

So the fair is from 19 to 28 June 2026 , held on the Town Moor from 1882 and it is good and well organised. Parking is available on the site but I prefer public transport. There is an official website at hoppingsfunfairs.com and it is pretty good.

It lists all the rides designating a thrill factor, ride duration and fun rating. Clearly as it is their site the rides are rated 8-10 ! They also give details on height requirements and vouchers for rides

There is a lot to do this year and I would plan the visit if you want to make sure that you don’t miss out on any particular rides. They say that the rides are from £2-£6 so if you want to just do a few rides that is not too bad . If you want to do a lot of rides I suggest that you bring someone with you who will be paying for the rides.

There is plenty of food on offer , so if you want to spend a lot of time there you don’t need to go hungry.

This is the tallest mobile ride in the world according to the hoppings. I have to say , it’s canny big.

So , you don’t have to go up in the air and the dodgems are always fun. Nowadays there are health and safety guidelines that you have to follow on these things.

I did say that there were rides for the younger people, I just got distracted by the bigger rides.

Giving you a flavour of the fair. I would have to say that even in good conditions the ground surface is going to be challenging for some people needing assistance.

Always a good ride.

Ground level on one of the bigger rides.

Don’t be deceived , this is the reverse bungie !

They seem to be having a good time.

Not my thing but , it looks like they know their market.

So , plan your trip and have fun. There are a lot of great things to do at the funfair. Enjoy!
