Less than a week ago I blogged about the state of public phone boxes in Newcastle Upon Tyne and I am pleased to report that BT have done some repairs. Clearly the most important thing was to get them working again in case somebody needed them in an emergency. This one was the one with Beer Cans in it so it must be an improvement to see the move upmarket with a few Greggs.
Hopefully the next stage will be to make them look safer and remove the vandalism which is all too common nowadays.
This was one of the few ones that I found earlier that were actually working and it still is. You will note the earlier version handset.
This is another one that was that previously had no handset and seems to be in working order now. The door seems a bit pointless. Maybe they need to have a rethink on the housing. I would imagine that it would be quite noisy on a busy road so some soundproofing would probably be an advantage.
It doesn’t look too bad to use but I think I would be using some hand sanitiser.
Not sure what the motivation is with the paint. It is hardly a Banksy is it?
Of course I don’t know if it was the blog that made the difference. What I do know is that some phone boxes that I brought to everyone’s attention last week are working now. If you have a phone box that needs some attention , why not make a comment and see if BT will sort that one too!
