The evolution of Newcastle City Centre, Peter Cronin has a look at the new Pilgrim Quarter complex.

When HMRC decided to move 9000 people to the centre of Newcastle I guess it was pretty obvious whether they would get their way. You can decide if it was worth developing the city in this way.

Just a few metres away is the Laing Gallery and the new City centre library in the background.

People of many ages will remember dancing the night away in a club that has many names over the years.

The new library , do you think it blends?

Note the lack of traffic in the centre of Newcastle. They don’t really like people taking their cars into the centre. The future seems to be e scooters , do you think that is the solution to getting people into the shops and offices ?

There will not be too many tears seeing this particular building coming down.

Some architecture outlasts others.

This building will not be coming down.

You can see the size of the development , immense !

Just around the corner from the other photos.

How safe do you feel in the city centre?

As far as I know this will be preserved but let me know if you know otherwise.

Let me know if you like the way that the city planners are changing the landscape . Perhaps you could let me know how the office workers will get to work in a very anti car city. There is a great metro system but it is probably working to capacity. Would a private business be moving 9000 people to the centre of town or to out of town developments at a time when wfh is just taking off. Let me know , I really want your views.
