Well let’s get back to where it all started. When we were first attacked by the invisible enemy the government decided that it wanted to stop the nhs being overwhelmed. That is the job of government , looking after the interests of the many not the few. Hence the lockdowns to stop the spread and give us time to develop a vaccine and discover which medicines worked.
So , the vaccines reduce the potency of the virus and the medicines help to deal with the virus. What is all the fuss about , this time around? Well 2.3 million people have the virus in the uk at the moment according to ONS. That is a lot of people and it is pretty tough if you have the disease badly . You might have a couple of days in bed or even a couple of weeks but there are only about 10,000 people in hospital with it and none in intensive care.
We are now in the living with it stage, vaccines work , science works and most people are relatively safe with less than 100 people dying a day with it which is more in line with Influenza and Pneumonia.
The government is not going to say it is all over and it is not. We are all hoping that a more serious mutation does not arise but it is time to get on with things and hope that we are not in the vulnerable minority.
We now have a new threat to deal with , the unjustifiable invasion of Ukraine by the Russians. This is not just a land grab , it is an attack on the Western way of life including our tolerances and freedoms.
