Great North Run 2022

The great north run did take place this year , but it was very toned down out of respect to the late HM Queen Elizabeth 2. No red arrows over the tyne bridge this year. The run raises over £25 million for good causes and the Queen would have wanted the event to go ahead , not just for that reason but also because it is so good for the welfare of the runners and supporters.

Jacob Kiplimo won the event and was looking pretty strong at the start.

Shortly before the race started the crowds were waiting at the side of the road.

The crowds were out in force and the majority of the 60,000 runners had clearly put some training in. As usual there were those who had not done so and will probably be paying the price already.

Not surprisingly after all these years the run is staged so that it is safe for the runners and spectators.

Large crowds to support the event but all very respectful with the other events on everybody’s mind.
