At last we have a new Prime Minister , how long has this been going on? Well it was back on July 9 2022 that I reviewed the candidates. It was quickly narrowed down to Rishi Sunak and Liz Truss and we now finally have the winner in place and we can start to deal with matters that have been put on hold while government seems to have been on a long summer holiday.
Former Liberal Democrat Liz Truss is now Prime minister. Not the margin that you might have expected but surprisingly strongly supported by Joe Lycett , the new political correspondent on the Laura Kuenssberg program. Joe , self proclaimed right winger should really have had a lefty woke person on the show to give some political balance on the BBC , but you can’t have everything.
And so it goes on, Rishi Sunak will give the new leader his full support, Liz praises Boris, Boris praises Liz and Priti Patel resigns as Foreign Secretary.
Finally we should soon be in a position to ease the worries of millions of people faced with massive energy bill price rises and desperately needing financial support from the Government.
Everyone realises that it is the price to pay with Putin waging an economic war against the rest of the world and we are thankful that we are not paying with lives as well. I am confident that help will come , just a shame that so many people have had to wait so long to get news of the help that will come.
On the bright side , a massive push towards renewables which was already going at a pace, but this has turbo charged the efforts.
So let us hold on to our seats for the next 18 months before the next General Election , most of us wish that our energy contracts had been tied up for longer. A week is a long time in politics.
