A game of two halves is maybe an overused phrase in football but maybe it was justified in England’s fantastic 4-2 win over Croatia.
I was wondering what had happened to the England that I wanted to see in the first half. England were defending in their own half, not pressing forward and yes , two goals in the first half but Croatia were on the rise and we could have easily lost if things had continued as they were.
Harry Kane mentioned the Manager’s “half time speech” . I guess that is one word for it. Anyway it had the desired effect and we started to see the team play the way that I had wanted to see in the first half.

Harry Kane was inspirational as always, Jude Bellingham was a new player in the second half. Gordon had worked hard but was just not making an impression so substituting him with Marcus Rashford was the right choice.
So , England deserved the fabulous win. Concerns about the goals conceded but , hey it was the first match so time to sort that out. I was disappointed in the first half but in the second half they showed that they do have the ability and passion to go all the way.
I am now looking forward to the match against Ghana next week. Great start England , lets hope that we build on that.
