The Great North Run “is great again” says Peter Cronin

I managed to get right up close to the finish line for the 2021 Great North Run and when I say the finish line , earlier on it had been the starting line. There was an atmosphere that has not been there in earlier runs. Probably very frustrating for the runners to have the start staggered so much but it did lead to a much more intimate and exciting finish line and the added bonus for many people to be near to where they are staying in Newcastle.

Yes there were road closures but there always are and they are part of the fun of turning the capital of the north into a world class city for running.

This road closure is just metres away from the start and finish of the run so not too much disruption for the locals.

The actual end of the road for the runners and the town moor immediately accessible for a safe cool down after the run.

The final few steps for the runners. The run was a little hilly and Peter Cronin certainly would not have liked the inclines towards the end of the race and the times reflected this. Another massive success for running and Newcastle.
