Does anyone understand politics anymore asks Peter Cronin

This is the week that a Tory Government voted to increase National Insurance in order to pay for social care needs of the country. If only it was that simple. Boris Johnson didn’t have to join the Labour Party to become prime minister as Tony Blair did but maybe there are a few comparisons between the two leaders.

Both determined to get their own way and both will go down in history as being great leaders. Don’t forget that Johnson , “Got brexit done” even though about half the country were against it. Now Johnson has introduced plans for better social care but the devil is in the detail. When you look into it most of the money will go to the NHS initially and it is going to be paid by National Insurance. Does anyone know the difference between Income Tax and National Insurance? I expect that a politician would come up with some excuse as to why they are not the same. Still , who would have thought that the labour party would vote against funding the NHS.

Seriously though, nobody should be against funding the NHS or social care but the amounts required are mouthwatering. The amounts that will be collected from the middle income people will probably result in wage inflation and the promise that you won’t lose your family home will not seem so sweet when they come after Inheritance tax on your one bedroomed flat in London.
